A newswire is a service that companies use to distribute press releases, including earnings announcements, to the public and the media at a scheduled time. Between a company sending a release and the newswire publishing it, the text sits on the newswire's systems unpublished.

Where does newswire come up?

• Hack to trade — Hack to trade is obtaining unpublished, market-moving information by breaking into a computer system, such as a newswire, filing agent or law firm, and trading on it before release; it exploits a true signal and injects no false one into the price.
• Fake press releases — A fake press release is a fabricated corporate announcement issued through a wire service or a lookalike site, designed to move a share price for the few minutes before the company can deny it.
