Checked against the primary document on October 4, 2026. The library's summary, tags and figures for this record were compared with the regulator's own document by an AI model (Claude) following written instructions, with sampled and disputed records read a second time. What is alleged to have happened

the Securities and Exchange Commission announced this matter on October 16, 2018 as release LR-24317. The respondents named are Bryan B. Long (1 individual, 0 entities).

This library tags the matter as insider trading, based on the conduct the regulator describes. Each tag links to a page explaining how that technique works, what statute it engages, and what penalties comparable actions have attracted. The tagging is ours, not the regulator's: agencies charge statutory provisions, not technique names.

The conduct is recorded against options.

An SEC administrative order of May 2019 describes the outcome. On 7 May 2019 the court entered an order, by consent, permanently enjoining Long from antifraud violations and ordering disgorgement of $35,842.49, prejudgment interest of $636.66 and a civil penalty of $35,842.49, matching the profit the complaint attributed to the options trades. The Commission also suspended him from appearing or practising before it as an accountant, with the right to ask for reinstatement after three years. The order does not mention a criminal case, and we did not see the court order itself.

What technique is this, and how does it work?

This action is tagged with one technique in our taxonomy. The tagging is ours: regulators charge statutory provisions, not technique names, so the mapping is an editorial judgement described in our editorial policy.
