What is alleged to have happened
ASIC announced the plea on January 28, 2022 as release 22-010MR. Li admitted buying 390,000 PanAust contracts between March 19 and 26, 2015 and procuring his wife to buy 265,000, before PanAust announced a takeover bid on March 30, 2015.
Outcome: ASIC release 22-149MR, published on June 20, 2022, says Li was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment and released forthwith on recognisance on the condition of good behaviour for two years. It puts his profit at about A$343,000 and quotes the sentencing judge as finding that imprisonment was the appropriate sentence. No fine is reported. The release does not give the sentencing date, so June 20, 2022 is the release date.
