SEC trading suspensions per month
Trading suspensions arrive in clusters rather than at a steady rate, because the Commission frequently suspends a batch of related issuers at once. A suspension is a protective measure and alleges no wrongdoing by anyone.
How this was calculated
Counted from the SEC’s own trading suspensions index. Each suspension order is counted once on its release date. Suspensions are stored separately from the case library because they are not enforcement actions and allege nothing.
What this chart does not show
- A trading suspension is not an enforcement action and is not an accusation against any person.
- Suspensions are frequently issued in batches covering many issuers, so monthly counts are lumpy by construction.
- Coverage begins in 2015. Earlier months are not shown.
