Checked against the primary document on October 3, 2026. The library's summary, tags and figures for this record were compared with the regulator's own document by an AI model (Claude) following written instructions, with sampled and disputed records read a second time. No lawyer has reviewed them. A checked record can still contain errors, and checked does not mean endorsed. See how we check records or report a correction.

What is alleged to have happened

The Securities and Exchange Commission issued this settled order on September 9, 2024 (Release No. 34-100978, File No. 3-22087). The respondent is Matthew P. Forlano; the nephew who passed on the tip is a defendant in a separate court action.

The order finds that Viggiano, an investment bank analyst, learned of the planned acquisition of Maxar by November 15, 2022, and the tip passed through the nephew to the respondent. Maxar's stock rose almost 125 percent when the roughly $6.4 billion deal was announced on December 16, 2022.
