Checked against the primary document on October 3, 2026. The library's summary, tags and figures for this record were compared with the regulator's own document by an AI model (Claude) following written instructions, with sampled and disputed records read a second time. In April 2024 the Securities and Exchange Commission announced a final consent judgment against Gil Friedman, a former Francisco Partners consultant, for tipping his friend Kevin Van de Grift about the planned acquisition of Verifone Systems; Van de Grift allegedly made about $300,000. Without admitting or denying, Friedman accepted an injunction, a five-year officer and director bar and a $298,000 penalty, and agreed to a five-year suspension from practising before the SEC as an accountant.

What is alleged to have happened

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced this judgment on April 15, 2024 as release LR-25976, in a Southern District of New York case filed February 22, 2023 against Friedman and Van de Grift. The court entered the judgment on April 5, 2024.

The complaint alleged that Friedman passed non-public information about the Verifone deal to Van de Grift, who bought 60,000 shares between March 5 and 9, 2018 and sold them after the April 9 announcement. The litigation continues against Van de Grift.

What technique is this, and how does it work?

This action is tagged with one technique in our taxonomy. The tagging is ours: regulators charge statutory provisions, not technique names, so the mapping is an editorial judgement described in our editorial policy.

Same matter

The library links these 3 records because they appear to concern one matter: the same lead defendant, an overlapping technique tag and close filing dates, or a shared court docket or a release that cites the other. Records are listed by date filed.

This grouping is the library's, made by matching names, techniques, dates and citations when the site is built. It is not the regulator's or a court's determination that the records are one case, and it errs towards missing a link rather than making a false one.
