In July 2024 the Securities and Exchange Commission announced that the District of New Jersey granted it summary judgment against Gene Daniel Levoff, a former Apple senior attorney who traded Apple securities ahead of three 2015 and 2016 earnings announcements, with combined profits and losses avoided of about $382,000. The court ordered a $1,147,440 penalty, three times that figure, an injunction and an officer and director bar, and deemed disgorgement satisfied by a criminal forfeiture; he pleaded guilty in a parallel case in June 2022.
