Checked against the primary document on October 4, 2026. The library's summary, tags and figures for this record were compared with the regulator's own document by an AI model (Claude) following written instructions, with sampled and disputed records read a second time. No lawyer has reviewed them. A checked record can still contain errors, and checked does not mean endorsed. See how we check records or report a correction.

What is alleged to have happened

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced this matter on August 18, 2025 as release LR-26378, filing in the Southern District of New York.

For the regulator's own account of the facts, read the primary document linked above. This page deliberately summarises the structured record rather than reproducing the release.

Outcome (checked on 2026-10-04): in a litigation release dated March 30, 2026 the SEC reports that the Southern District of New York entered final consent judgments on March 26, 2026 as to Brent Cranmer and Daniel McCormick. Both agreed to be permanently enjoined from violating the insider-trading rule, Section 10(b) and Rule 10b-5. Cranmer was ordered to pay a $50,000 civil penalty and accepted a five-year bar on serving as an officer or director of a public company. McCormick was held liable for $115,598 in disgorgement, which the release says is treated as paid through the forfeiture order in the parallel criminal case. The release does not say whether either man admitted the allegations, and it describes the complaint's account as allegations only. This outcome covers Cranmer and McCormick; the release says nothing about Jonathan Whitesides, and we did not check his case. Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York brought a parallel criminal case against the defendants, which the release cites; this page does not report a criminal sentence.

Same matter

The library links these 2 records because they appear to concern one matter: the same lead defendant, an overlapping technique tag and close filing dates, or a shared court docket or a release that cites the other. Records are listed by date filed.

This grouping is the library's, made by matching names, techniques, dates and citations when the site is built. It is not the regulator's or a court's determination that the records are one case, and it errs towards missing a link rather than making a false one.
