What is alleged to have happened

The CFTC announced the complaint on May 18, 2020 (release 8164-20) in the Southern District of New York, charging fraud and registration violations. The release says paying some clients purported profits is typical of a Ponzi scheme, a detail within a misappropriation fraud.

The Ponzi tag is removed, and the trading ban, once only sought, is now recorded as imposed; the title called him an unnamed Danish man.

Outcome. CFTC release 8512-22 (April 8, 2022) reports an order and final judgment that permanently prohibits Mikkelsen from trading commodity interests and orders restitution of $1,191,286 and a penalty of $3,573,860, which the release describes as triple his gain. The order found that clients invested at least $1,536,782 with GNTFX and that he misappropriated it and was unregistered. The release does not say whether the judgment was by default or consent, and the entry date is not stated, so the release date is used. Restitution is not a separate field here.

This grouping is the library's, made by matching names, techniques, dates and citations when the site is built. It is not the regulator's or a court's determination that the records are one case, and it errs towards missing a link rather than making a false one.
